In a small town in Gujarat, Leeliben Vipulbhai Vadalia, a dedicated mother of two and a talented tailor, had always dreamed of achieving something extraordinary. Despite her locomotor disability, which limited her mobility, Leeliben never let her condition define her. Since 2009, she had been working tirelessly from home, mastering the art of tailoring and embroidery. Little did she know that her journey would take a remarkable turn when she was introduced to the Abilympics.
Leeliben’s story is one of resilience and determination. A friend informed her about the Sarthak NAAI competition, a platform where persons with disabilities (PwDs) could showcase their vocational skills. Intrigued and eager to learn more, Leeliben connected with Sarthak Educational Trust. Here, she discovered the full scope of the event and saw an opportunity to elevate her skills and gain recognition.
The National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI), established by the Government of India in 2001, organizes these competitions. Since then, NAAI has ensured representation of Indian PwDs in five International Abilympics. Participants like Leeliben have consistently demonstrated remarkable abilities and determination, making them more competitive in today’s fast-paced world.
In 2024, Leeliben participated in the NAAI Regional Competition held in Goa. Despite the challenges posed by her disability, her dedication and skill in embroidery shone through. The competition was fierce, but Leeliben’s intricate and beautiful designs stood out. Her hard work paid off when she won the bronze medal in the Embroidery category. The joy and pride she felt were immeasurable.
Leeliben’s family, especially her supportive husband and in-laws, celebrated her success. They encouraged her to aim higher, to participate in more events, and to achieve even greater success. With her sights now set on the NAAI National Competition, Leeliben is taking regular online embroidery training from Sarthak Educational Trust, diligently preparing herself for the next challenge.
Leeliben’s journey from a humble tailor to a champion is an inspiration to all. It proves that with determination, support, and the right opportunities, anyone can achieve their dreams.
