A New Chapter Begins: Bharti’s Unforeseen Win at the NAAI Regional Competition

Bharti Rameshbhai Rana, a dedicated Data Operator at a private hospital, has always exemplified resilience and determination despite facing challenges due to polio in both legs. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of opportunities like the Abilympics, organized by the National Abilympic Association of India (NAAI).

For 39 years, Bharti had focused on building a career and living independently, never considering herself as someone who would participate in competitions. However, in 2024, Bharti stumbled upon information about the NAAI Regional Event in Goa through social media. This event, facilitated by Sarthak Educational Trust, offered her a chance to showcase her talents in a way she had never imagined.

With the support of her husband, Virendra, Bharti decided to step into the arena of competition. Despite floral arrangement being more of a hobby than a formal skill, Bharti approached the challenge with her characteristic determination. To her astonishment and delight, Bharti clinched the Gold medal in the Floral Arrangement category, while Virendra secured the Silver.

This unexpected victory marked a turning point in Bharti’s life. It wasn’t just about winning accolades; it was about discovering new potentials and pursuing passions she had long nurtured. Buoyed by her success, Bharti has embarked on a new journey of training and preparation with Sarthak Educational Trust for the upcoming NAAI National Competitions.

Bharti’s story resonates deeply with the ethos of the Abilympics—where abilities are celebrated, barriers are shattered, and dreams are realized. Her journey underscores the importance of inclusive platforms that empower persons with disabilities (PwDs) to showcase their talents and redefine societal perceptions.

As NAAI continues to organize regional competitions, we invite NGOs, schools, colleges, and support networks to join us in nurturing and celebrating the talents of PwDs like Bharti. Together, let’s create a more inclusive and empowered world.
