An accident, the loss of a dream job, and the challenge of living with a visual impairment are not easy hurdles to overcome. Yet, Vishav Patil, with unwavering determination, triumphed over these adversities to win a Silver Medal at the NAAI National Competitions in December 2024.
He was working as an Assistant Outlet Manager at Hotel Radisson in Dharamshala when tragedy struck. On his way home from work, he met with a devastating accident that left him in a coma for nearly four months. When he finally regained consciousness, he had lost 80% of his vision. This marked an incredibly challenging phase in his life, as he not only faced the reality of his disability but also lost his job as a result.
Determined to rebuild his life, Vishav Patil enrolled in a DLED course to prepare for a career in teaching. His ultimate goal is to clear government teaching job exams and secure a stable and fulfilling future.
Vishav’s journey took a positive turn when he learned about the National Abilympics Association of India (NAAI) event and Sarthak Educational Trust through CRC Sundar Nagar, Himachal Pradesh. Drawing on his previous professional skills, he competed in the Restaurant Services skill category and delivered an outstanding performance. His hard work and talent earned him a Silver Medal at the NAAI National Competitions, an achievement that reignited his confidence and determination.
Now, Vishav is preparing for the 11th International Abilympics, set to be held in Finland in 2027.
Vishav is the only child of his parents, so he aspires to have a stable job. Along with pursuing his passion, he is also focused on building a successful career.
Vishav’s journey is truly inspiring because, despite the challenges he faced after his accident, he never gave up. Even after losing 80% of his vision, he actively sought new opportunities and achieved success, such as winning the Silver Medal at the NAAI National Event.
